Local Info

Glorig Croft House is in the spectacular setting of Bedersaig, less than one mile from Husinish Beach on the north west Atlantic coast of Harris. Husinish Beach was even voted by The Guardian newspaper as the best beach in the UK. Travel along the dramatic 13 mile single track road, passing the front door of Amhuinnsuidhe Castle and Bay, and enjoy the breathtaking views over to Taransay and the beaches of South Harris.

Climbing to the top of the hill behind the house, on the clearest of days, you may even catch a glimpse of the island of St Kilda. The surrounding hills and lochs are home to a vast array of wildlife including red deer, golden eagle, grouse, cormorants, otters and salmon.

The nearest beach at Hushinish is more often than not deserted, however there are many more equally beautiful and magical beaches within walking distance of the house.

The feature of the house is its remoteness with the nearest shops being 13 miles away at the road end and in Tarbert (15 miles). Stornoway is an hours drive and has all the amenities of a large town. Tarbert, the main town in Harris, has several grocery shops, hairdresser, bank, hotels and restaurants. There is also a Tourist Information office in the town centre.

From Husinish pier you can see the remaining houses that are left on the island of Scarp which was vacated in the early 1970's. It is a short boat crossing to the island if you are lucky enough to persuade a local to take you there.
